This picturesque french town is less than an hour far from Freiburg, which made it a perfect day trip while road tripping the Black Forest. The cobblestone lanes and the romantic canals, where german and french culture meet, make Colmar ideal for exploration that inspire the most difficult visitor.

Little Venice
As expected, attracts tourists, thus it usually is quite crowded. If you’re lucky enough you’ ll be able to walk around. A boat tour is also an option. In any case, don’t forget to place your heart-shaped locker on the bridge!
Quai de la Poissonnerie
It is the waterfront area, ideal for walks and photographs. The vibe is really unique.

The whole town is a piece of art and literally every building has a story to tell. Some of the highlights I experienced are listed below.
Maison Pfister
Built in 1537, this renaissance architecture’s gem is today a star attraction. Its wooden carved balcony, the octagonal turret, the mural paintings and so many more details, really catch the eye.
St Martin’s Church
This Gothic style Roman Catholic church, was built using local red and golden sandstone. The south tower rises up to 71m and is a key landmark of Colmar.
Koïfhus
This is the oldest local public building, also one of Gothic and Renaissance architectural style.

Little Train
A fun way to explore the town is by the little train while enjoying a guided tour.

L’ Atrémise
Elegance and taste meet in one of the cutest cafés I’ve ever been! It is a must-do when in Colmar and definitely worth your patience to get a table.
